Lord of the Rings Giveaway + LOTR Tag

blogoversary3

Oh, is it not Friday? Surprise! You get this giveaway post a day early because it’s a SPECIAL DAY. But I’m also doing an extra tag today as well.

Today being Bilbo’s and Frodo’s birthday (happy birthday!), it’s a Lord of the Rings themed giveaway, naturally!

But first I’m also doing a bonus tag (LOTR themed of course) because I saw it on Pinterest (originally from Tumblr I believe) and thought it would be fun, so I couldn’t resist doing it today. ๐Ÿ™‚

LOTR Tag

It seems to be more movie- than book-oriented, but hey, I’ll give it a shot all the same. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Answers are some inconsistent mix of movie/book answers.

  1. lotrcollage1Favorite Film — The Return of the King. So much epic and amazingness, not to mention the incredible music. โค
  2. Favorite Battle — Um. Not sure. Tie between Helm’s Deep and the Pelennor Fields I guess?
  3. Favorite Character — Faramir. He’s the best. โค (We will NOT talk about how his character was ruined in The Two Towers movie… though I still love him in the movies, just… it’s atrocious how they changed him.)
  4. Scene That Makes You Cry — Boromir’s death. *sniffle*
  5. Scene That Makes You Laugh — “Shall I describe it to you? Or would you like me to find you a box?”
  6. Ugliest Orc — All of them.
  7. Favorite Antagonist — WHAT EVEN DOES THIS MEAN? Gollum, maybe?
  8. Gondor or Rohan — Rohan I guess. I love their culture and horses and green fields and Fangorn forest.
  9. Favorite Hobbit — Merry! He’s just so fun and awesome and the best. (Or Bilbo if we’re talking about the Hobbit movies, because Martin Freeman as Bilbo is perfection.)
  10. lotrcollage2OTP (translation: One True Pairing, a.k.a. favorite romantic couple) — Faramir and Eowyn. They’re my precious. โค
  11. BROTP (translation: favorite best-friend brotherly friendship) — In the book: Aragorn and Eomer maybe? In the movie, Aragorn and Legolas and Gimli as a threesome.
  12. Favorite Location — Rivendell, maybe? I’d love to vacation there… or Lothlorien… or anywhere.
  13. Favorite Weapon — You can’t go wrong with Legolas’s bow & arrows.
  14. Favorite Outfit — Eowyn’s white dress, or maybe her green one, or Arwen’s red/black dress… and an Elven cloak too, please!
  15. Favorite Armor — Faramir’s white tree of Gondor leather armor.
  16. Favorite Female Character — Eowyn. She’s fabulous.
  17. Elves or Dwarves? — Elves. They’re splendid. ^_^
  18. Coolest Visual Effect — I’m rather fond of Legolas jumping up onto his horse when they’re riding against the wargs in The Two Towers. ๐Ÿ˜‰
  19. Weirdest Screencap — I… don’t even know.
  20. Saddest Character Death — Thorin in the movie. D:
  21. Most Inspiring Moment — Both times the Rohirrim show up over a ridge at sunrise to save the day against the forces of evil; also Sam’s “I can’t carry it for you — but I can carry you!” And so many others. โค
  22. Character You Pity Most — Gollum.
  23. Least Favorite Character — Denethor. He is… not a nice person. <.< Ugh.
  24. Scariest Moment — Everything with the Black Riders in the first movie.
  25. lotrcollage3Favorite Quote — “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”
  26. Favorite Larger-Than-Life Foe — Does this mean scariest? In which case the Witch-King of Angmar a.k.a. leader of the Black Riders.
  27. Isengard or Mordor? — Hmm… Isengard, because it’s not as scary and the tower of Orthanc looks nicer. Pretty spikes and no fiery red eyeball at the top. *nods*
  28. Ents or Eagles — BOTH. (We will also not talk about how they ruined the Ents in the movies or how the Eagles didn’t talk. >.> AHEM.)
  29. Your LOTR Collection — You can see the stack of my books here, anyway…
  30. How You Got Into LOTR — I talked about it in this post for the 62nd birthday of LOTR a couple months ago… But it started with reading The Hobbit when I was hobbit-sized myself, and then listening to the Lord of the Rings audiobooks. The rest is history. *nods*

Sweater Weather Fall Tag

sweaterweathertag

Since tomorrow’s the first day of Fall, I thought I’d do an Autumnal sort of tag today! And how fortunate that Aspen @ Texas Rebel Girl tagged me (awhile back) for the Sweater Weather Tag — thank you, deary!

Sweater Weather Tag

fallphoto

1. Favorite candle scent?

All of them!

2. Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate?

Hot chocolate, always! ๐Ÿ™‚

3. Whatโ€™s the best Fall memory you have?

Visiting relatives for Thanksgiving during NaNo that one year.

4. Best fragrance for Fall?

Ummm… the smell of cinnamon maybe? I have no idea. XD

5. Favorite Thanksgiving food?

All of it. (Okay, okay, I’m partial to stuffing and corn and cranberry sauce and those little dinner roll things. And pie, of course.)

6. What is Autumn weather like where you live?

Usually… hot. ๐Ÿ˜› It’ll cool off eventually, but it tends to be kinda warm most of the time. Oh well…

7. Most worn sweater?

My NaNo hoodie! *hugs it*

nanohoodie

8. Football games or jumping in leaf piles?

LEAVES ALL THE WAY. I do not understand football at all. *shakes head*

9. Skinny jeans or leggings?

Leggings I guess? You can wear them with skirts too. Jeans are kinda cold to wear in the Fall…

10. Combat boots or Uggs?

I had to look up Uggs. XD Um… combat boots if I actually had them? I like laced-up boots and it’s normally not cold enough for warm boots… and you can always wear extra socks if it is.

11. Is pumpkin spice worth the hype?

It depends. If it’s in pumpkin bread, then…

athousandtimesyes

Otherwise… Eh, not sure.

12. Favorite fall TV show?

I… don’t watch many TV shows, and then always from the library on DVD so… I don’t know? So I’ll just use this to say my favorite TV shows instead. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Firefly (it looks Fall-ish!)
  • Sherlock
  • Hustle
  • Leverage

shows

13. What song really gets you into the Fall spirit?

So Ghostly Then the Girl Came In by Kate Price… simply because I heard it first in Fall, and it’s eerie and makes me think of NaNoWriMo because of my NaNo poem.

14. What do you want to be for Halloween?

I don’t really do Halloween so… I dunno. I’ve always thought it would be fun to dress up like an elf though. *shrug*

15. Hats or Scarves?

Um. Since I don’t really have a hat (how did this happen?), scarves I guess. I tend to use a soft neckwarmer instead actually. I even actually use one for a hat-ish thing too sometimes, because that way it holds my hair back. I’m eccentric. XD

16. Whatโ€™s your #1 favorite thing about Fall?

The feel in the air of adventure, the cooling weather, and NaNo probably.

blogoversary3

How about you? Do you enjoy Fall? Anything favorite about this Autumnal time of year? Feel free to snag the tag if you’re feeling Fall-ish!

(Also, FYI: if I don’t reply to comments for awhile, it’s merely because I will be internetless for a week. But I shall return! ๐Ÿ™‚ )

Million Dollar Writer Tag

milldollars

This one was a tag from Sarah @ Light and Shadows, the If I Had a Million Dollars: Writer Edition Tag! Which . . . er . . . rather explains itself, methinks.

Rules:

  • Post the picture
  • Link back to the person who tagged you
  • List 10 things you’d buy or do if you had a million dollars (preferably writing-related, but whatever works)
  • Tag some other writers

Ten Things

(Keep in mind this is for fun, so if I ACTUALLY suddenly got a million dollars, I’d probably do things a lot differently, for actual life things and for others, etc., but still. This is focusing on writerly things…)

  1. Get a new laptop after mine is gone. I love my current one but it’s turning 5 years old next month and the wear and tear is beginning to get to it… (Battery lasts like 3 minutes, overheats, cable is bent, mouse clicker is loose, the “A” key has a tendency to fall off, etc…) It’s working surprisingly well though, those little things aside, and I’m so thankful for that! I so hope it will last a long time…
  2. Books. Looots of books.
  3. More bookshelves. To hold the lots of books.
  4. …A new house to hold the bookshelves. Preferably a lovely piece of forested land somewheres. *nods* There would be a whole room at least devoted to being a library…
  5. I would also give SO many books of various kinds to friends. It would be absolutely lovely.
  6. Go to a few writer’s conferences. (You thought I was going to get totally distracted by bookish things and forget the writing part, right? XD)
  7. DASH AROUND THE COUNTRY AND VISIT ALL MY WRITER FRIENDS!! That would totally be inspirational, and just downright fun. โค
  8. Travel to the British Isles. I’d spend several months exploring Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, England, the Isle of Man…
  9. Open a bookstore probably. Because why not. And it would have comfy nooks for reading, and sell coffee and snacks (probably snacks from books) and have a meeting room in the back for writer meetings, and…
  10. Publishing. Possibly self-publish my books if I could afford to get the word out and do everything right as far as covers/editing/marketing etc.? (Or maybe I could just be so well off that I meet the right higher-ups people in some big publishing company, which would be awesome too. *shrug*)

Bonus — 11: Start a writer/bookish conference of my own somewhere near where I live and entice all my writer/bookish friends to come see me there! …Actually I should seriously do this one. *nods* CALLING ALL TEXAN AUTHORS/WRITERS/BLOGGERS/BOOKWORMS — WANNA MEET IN THE MIDDLE SOMEWHERE? ๐Ÿ˜›

blogoversary3

How about you? Any dreams if you suddenly had a million dollars? XD You are officially tagged if you wish to do it! ^_^

The Wisteria Writer Tag

WWtag

Grace @ True and Pure tagged me for The Wisteria Writer Tag! Thanks, Grace! ๐Ÿ™‚

Since there were ten questions she answered, and then she made ten new questions… I’m adding a few of the questions she answered because I wanted to answer them too. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m also not tagging anyone, but feel free to consider yourself tagged if you’d like to do it! Just let me know if you do so I can read your post. ^_^

Speaking of posts… would you lookit that. This is my 175th post. *confetti* Go me. XD

ALSO! If you haven’t voted in the Silmarillion Awards yet, do scurry on over there and vote by the end of July 14th! Your favorite fantasy characters need your vote!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Okay. Now on to The Wisteria Writer Tag…

The Rules

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you.
  • Answer the ten questions asked.
  • Add ten (writing or book related) of your own.
  • Nominate ten people.

The Questions

  1. What do you use to document inspiration and ideas?
  2. Can you share a snippet of one of your current pieces of writing?
  3. What authors or books inspire you?
  4. What is the first story that you ever completed?
  5. What story (short story or novel) do you consider your best work so far?
  6. Do you outline your novels before you start writing, and if so, how?
  7. Who is your favorite character that you created?
  8. What style of prose are you best at writing (description, dialogue, action, etc.)?
  9. What is the first thing you do when you start revising a piece of work?
  10. When do you write (in the morning, after lunch, before bed, etc.)?
  11. Where do you write (on your bed, at your desk, etc.)?
  12. What is your favorite music to listen to while you write?
  13. What writing advice do you want to give yourself?

What do you use to document inspiration and ideas?

For several years now, I’ve been keeping a series of writing notebooks/journals. I have one each year, either a nice journal or notebook, which I label for that year, and all my random ideas and a lot of my plotting goes in there. I do have folders and files on my laptop where I keep track of bigger things for specific stories sometimes, and my actual-writing mostly happens on the computer as well, but as far as inspiration and ideas, most of it goes in my notebooks. …I really should go back through them for ideas.

Can you share a snippet of one of your current pieces of writing?

Here’s a snatch of later on in The Other Half of Everything:

Having gotten free of Ivan, Teague folded his arms, turned away, and stood staring at a wall. Lulin scurried to fetch first-aid supplies to clean Ivan up. I hovered anxiously, flickering nervous glances between the brothers.

โ€œDinner,โ€ Teague proclaimed shortly, pointing me toward the kitchen.

Normally I would have been annoyed. Not today. Gratefully, I fled back to my soup.

OHEbannerfinal2

What authors or books inspire you?

Diana Wynne Jones, Lloyd Alexander, George MacDonald, Mirriam Neal. Also Tolkien because we’re kindred souls.

What is the first story that you ever completed?

QLcoverQuest for a Legend, which was then book #4 in my Starrellian Saga. …Which is now in a complicated position what with me reworking the whole series. (No, the three small “stories” I wrote when I was maybe 10 or so that were 500 words, 900 words, and 1400 words, respectively, which we do not talk about, do not count. *cough*)

What story (short story or novel) do you consider your best work so far?

Whoa. This is a really interesting question! It’s complicated because my opinion of my finished stories change over time… So at the moment, I’d say Darkling Reflections, my 11,000 word mystery/romance story. Which is odd considering it’s the only thing like it that I’ve written and I’ll probably write nothing like it ever again. It’s not even fantasy, precisely… But it’s my favorite right now, since with most of my other things, I feel like they need a bit of work to be perfect… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Do you outline your novels before you start writing, and if so, how?

I usually do, but it depends. I tend to have at least a rough idea of the story, but I prefer to outline it pretty well. It doesn’t always happen though, and sometimes I just start writing. XD As for how… it changes so much from story to story that I’m slightly at a loss for what to say on that subject. I like to have a “blurb” sort of summary, and if possible a rough list of the main events, at least, and a list of characters. From there it depends.

Who is your favorite character that you created?

*clutches heart* HOW CAN YOU DO THIS TO ME. Ahem. I don’t want to offend anybody. >.> But… yeah… probably Tare. *cough* I can’t help it. I love everyone else too though!! (Also… *twitches at the word “created” since I actually “discover” my stories*)

TareBW

What style of prose are you best at writing (description, dialogue, action, etc.)?

Wow, I have no idea. O_O Um… mayyybe dialog? I do enjoy that the most, I think. But I don’t know if I’m “better” at writing it than other aspects… I would of course love to be equally skilled in all kinds, if I could be!

What is the first thing you do when you start revising a piece of work?

If it’s something pretty big, I print it and go over it with a pen or highlighter. Usually. Not that I’ve revised a lot of things. >.> If it’s just a smaller thing, I just… I don’t know, read through it and fix typos and make sure it actually makes sense? *shrug* I don’t analyze my revising process much since I don’t always make it that far. ๐Ÿ˜›

When do you write (in the morning, after lunch, before bed, etc.)?

All over the map. I think I WISH that I wrote in the morning, but that I usually write before bed… and, more likely than not, after I SHOULD be in bed… Ahem. I don’t want to be a night-owl but a lot of my writing tends to happen then.

Where do you write (on your bed, at your desk, etc.)?

At my desk on my preciousss my laptop. Unless I happen to be at a write-in for NaNo, in which case I write at a library or restaurant, or if I am writing in my writing-notebook, notes/plotting/etc., in which case I’m usually on my bed or in my comfy reading chair, or occasionally in a car.

What is your favorite music to listen to while you write?

I don’t always listen to music when I write… but if I do, it’s usually something that is a theme-song of sorts for the story in question, or else instrumental Celtic music, usually.

(If I’m writing The Secret of Kedran’s Wood, I’ll sometimes have this one playing. I listened to Stand in the Rain wayyyy too many times when I was writing Darkling Reflections and have no regrets. XD I sadly don’t have a theme-song for The Other Half of Everything. Which is dreadful because it actually is supposed to have music involved because Meridian is a music-nut like Teague is a word-nut. And yet I don’t have any music I associate with the story. No wonder I’m uninspired. -_-)

(very Meridian) (source)

What writing advice do you want to give yourself?

Don’t be afraid. Just write down the stories. Don’t let fear hold you back from putting those words down. Fear of less-than-perfection and all the rest of it is just a trick to make you not write. So just do it — write the tales on your heart, fearlessly. You can perfect them later. What do you fear? Don’t fear it. The pen is mightier than the sword.

Infinity Dreams Blog Award

O Frabjous Day! I was tagged by Candice Williams @ O Ye Scribes for the Infinity Dreams Blog Award! Thanks muchly, Candice! ๐Ÿ™‚

Rules

  • Thank the blog that nominated you.
  • Tell us 11 facts about yourself.
  • Answer the questions that were set for you to answer.
  • Nominate 11 bloggers and set questions for them.

Eleven Facts About Mwah [I know, it’s French and I’m misspelling it. Boohoo]

(Oh dear. Prepare to learn all about this odd humanoid behind-the-blog…)

1. I’m an INFP. I recently saw somewhere the Meyers-Briggs personality types assigned to fairytale archetypes. Which makes me the Princess, the “dreamy, naive, and idealistic girl wandering the woods singing”. Oh dear… (Also, I only remember which letters I am by turning it into an acronym for It’s Never Fully Perfect.)

2. I am an introvert. I would rather sit in my room with the doors closed and read or write than go anywhere. I enjoy being with people but am exhausted and burnt out after the fact, which means that if I do go somewhere, even if it’s just a writing meeting, I consider that the primary focus of my day because I know I won’t get anything done afterward…

introverts

3. I am a perfectionist. Which can be useful, but mostly it’s really bad. You don’t even want to know how many times I edit, preview, tweak, preview, adjust, preview, polish, preview… etc. my blog posts…

perfectionist

4. I’m also a chronic procrastinator. Yes, this is a lethal combination with #3…

procrastinators

5. I have FOMO (yes this is a thing, which means Fear Of Missing Out) and an inability-to-say-no. I want to do aaaall the things and not miss out, plus I can’t turn people down. Which when coupled withย  #2, #3, and #4, means I am constantly over-committed and stressed and behind… But it also means that I have my fingers in all of the pies whenever possible, which can be fairly awesome, when I can keep up.

6. I should be reading the lovely books I’m supposed to review instead of blogging right now. (Case in point. BUT LOVELY BOOOOOKS. <3)

7. I want to start a book blog for sporadically reviewing random books. This is something I must do. Yes. And it will be fabulous, surely.

8. My favorite foods are Fettuccine Alfredo, strawberries, apricots, chocolate (totally a food), and anything that tastes like mint or orange-flavor, and my favorite snack is cream-cheese on crackers. (I have no idea, they are just amazing.)

9. I am very excited about the first look at the Sherlock Christmas Special episode! I HAVE NO CLUE (haha see what I did there) WHAT IS GOING ON OR WHAT THE DEAL IS WITH THE COSTUMES/TIME PERIOD BUT I REALLY DON’T CARE BECAUSE I’M JUST SUPER EXCITED. Why is December so far awayyy? And why is 2017 even farther??

10. My favorite funny things to watch on youtube are Blimey Cow and HISHE (How It Should Have Ended), both of which I discovered recently. I don’t always agree of course, but it’s still funny. [Warning: both are at times extremely hilarious and always extremely addicting and therefore time-consuming!]

11. I’ve recently gotten into listening to Christian pop/rock on the radio. I don’t enjoy all the songs but there are a surprising amount that I’m starting to like a lot!

Candice’s Questions

1. Would you rather grow a garden or raise a puppy?

I honestly don’t know… I have a cat, which mayyy be similar to the latter? So maybe? But I’d also be paranoid of doing either wrong, so a garden if I failed it would just be… dead. Which, dead plants are a better option. But gardening can be enjoyable, at times. I JUST DON’T KNOW! O_O

2. What’s the last book you read that had the word the in the title?

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. Which was a reread… *realizes I haven’t finished reading a book since June 24th and freaks out slightly*

3. If you could create a theme park, what would the theme be?

Interesting question! I actually have no idea… Maybe Middle-earth themed? Or else book-themed (but maybe libraries count…?). It’s kind of a toss-up. But both would be kind of awesome.

My Questions

1. If you could have any superpower/ability, what would you choose? (My cruelty knows no bounds. ;))

2. Would you mind sharing a snippet of your latest work-in-progress? Do so! (Alternately, tell us a little about what it’s about?)

3. What’s the best book you read recently and why did you like it?
