Ren: The Girl With the Mark – Season 2 Kickstarter! #FantasyMonth

Hey, friends!

As some of you may know, it’s February #FantasyMonth, and what better time than now to share about one of my favorite fantasy shows?

Namely Ren: The Girl With the Mark, an Indie-made show which can be viewed for free online on YouTube (or on Amazon Prime)!

I feel like there aren’t enough fantasy shows out there, and I absolutely loved this amazing production from Mythica Entertainment — all the more so because it’s short (the first season features five 10-minute episodes) and because it’s an independent production, which just makes it more awesome!

I adore the characters (Karn and Hunter, y’all!), the fantasy world setting which looks so cool (filmed in the UK!), the music (I bought the soundtrack and listen to it all the time!), and of course the excitement and accents and the fact that it’s made by the people who did the Lord of the Rings fan film Born of Hope!

(Check out my post Ten Reasons Why Ren the Series is Awesome if you need more reasons to watch it, because honestly, what are you waiting for? You need it in your life!)

Well, I’m SUPER EXCITED to get to share about the Kickstarter that just launched to provide crowdfunding for new episodes of Ren, so that we fans will hopefully finally get a second season! I’ve been wanting more ever since that epic cliffhanger at the end of the first season, and now it’s up to us fans to help get more of the story onto the screen.

Do check it out! Watch the first season if you haven’t yet (it’s less than an hour in total!), and consider supporting the Kickstarter if you can! (It runs through February 29 and new episodes only happen if it gets fully funded.)

Here is more about it from a recent press release:

Produced and filmed in Cambridgeshire, UK, Ren is a short-form fantasy-adventure series about a young woman marked by an ancient spirit. It’s the brainchild of Kate Madison, also known for her phenomenally popular Lord of the Rings fan film Born of Hope.

Like Season One, the new episodes will be funded by the general public through the popular crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. With this system the filmmakers set the target they need to fund their series, then fans pledge their support, and the money only changes hands if the target is hit by the deadline, in this case February 29th.

“Crowdfunding is great because it cuts out the gatekeepers,” Madison explains. “Our loyal community of fans made Season One such a rewarding experience, and through Kickstarter they have the chance to say, ‘Yes, I want this show to be renewed!’”

Also, fantasy fans, be sure to check out the fifth annual February is Fantasy Month, hosted by Jenelle Schmidt, to celebrate all things fantasy, as well as a blog tag, Instagram challenge, and giveaway! (I’m hoping to return with more posts throughout the month.)

Who’s excited about hopefully a new season of Ren? 😀 *fangirling*

Ren: The Girl With the Mark – Season 2?

Friends, I’m excited to share some news with you!

The Indie-made fantasy show Ren: The Girl with the Mark is gearing up for a second season — but we need your help!

What is Ren?

If you haven’t heard about this original fantasy TV show (which has one season so far, consisting of five 10-minute episodes), and would like to know more, you can check out the official website or my post Ten Reasons Why Ren the Series is Awesome.

I stumbled across it years ago when it first released, since it was made by the same talented filmmakers who made the Lord of the Rings fan-film Born of Hope (about Aragorn’s parents). I adored the first season of Ren, and I’m excited to share the news with other fantasy fans!

Scary things going down in the woods . . .

I absolutely love the characters (Ren! Karn! Hunter!) and the acting, as well as the setting, look, and feel of it. The story kept me holding my breath. And the music! I love it so much that I had to buy the soundtrack — it’s good for listening to while writing exciting scenes. 😉 Ren is simply an excellently-made show and I need more of it in my life. ❤

Watch it Free!

You can watch the first season of Ren the Series on the website or Youtube!

Or, if you have Amazon Prime, the first season has been re-edited and put together there in one place! Seriously, go see it. (It’s a total of 45 minutes, so you really have no excuse not to! ;))

So check it out if you love fantasy! (And join me in waiting for a continuation of that explosive cliffhanger! XD)

Karn being mysterious and epic. He’s my favorite!

How You Can Help

If the Ren team can get enough sign-ups for their new newsletter, they’ll know they have enough support to launch a crowdfunding campaign for season two, and they’re over halfway to that goal!

So if you are an old or new fan of Ren, or just want to help out, be sure to spread the word and sign up to renew Ren for a second season!

Ren and Hunter, my other favorites!

Check out the latest update on Youtube!

Here’s some more information, taken from the official press release:

SECOND SEASON OF REN: THE GIRL WITH THE MARK IN THE WORKS

The team behind Ren: The Girl with the Mark, the ambitious short-form fantasy series about a young woman marked by an ancient spirit, is asking fans to support a second season.

The premiere episode has had over two million views to date, while the season as a whole has received over 40 award nominations from festivals around the world, and a dozen actual award wins.

Gongs collected include the Grand Jury Award at Melbourne International WebFest in Australia, and Best Series awards at GenCon and FilmQuest in the US and at Bilbao WebFest in Spain. Skelton’s performance was honoured at Hyperdrive Sci-Fi & Fantasy Festival in the UK, while director and co-creator Kate Madison took home a Best Director award from South Korea’s Seoul WebFest.

Fans will be delighted to hear that a second season is in the works. “I’ve just finished writing the last episode,” Madison reveals. “I won’t give you any spoilers, but you can expect a much bigger scope and scale to this season, as Ren and Hunter journey across Alathia to try to find the answers to some of Ren’s many questions.”

The first season was crewed by an army of volunteers – some from as far afield as Germany, the Netherlands and even the US – who descended on the small English village of Caxton, Cambridgeshire to help build the set, make the costumes and appear as extras. Madison notes that “it was their talent and enthusiasm that allowed us to make an independent series of such a high quality that many viewers thought they were watching something from a major TV
studio.”

The community ethos is something she is keen to continue. Before launching a crowdfunding campaign, Madison and her team have challenged themselves to get 5,000 fans signed up to their new mailing list. “Social media is great,” says Madison, “but with the wealth of information out there things can be missed, and nothing beats getting something straight into your inbox.”

You can show your support for further adventures of Ren: The Girl with the Mark by heading to rentheseries.com/renew and signing up to the mailing list.

Have you seen Ren the Series yet? And what do you think? If you’re a fellow fan, are you just as ready for the next season as I am? Aaahh! I’m so excited to continue this journey! 😀

Brief Ishness of December

ishness

Ishnesses, my dear Roadlings!

My December of 2016 was spent…

WRITING

Getting over the last of my end-of-NaNo cold and finishing up last NaNo-and-ML things.

KW2coverP

Writing a thousand words of Tare and the Chess Club only a week after NaNo because I’m insane like that. (I’d missed them. <3)

Getting Scrivener and playing with it to my heart’s content, organizing stories etc. — I adore it.

lscover

Skimming through The Library in the Stars (in order to find snippets to post) and finding that it wasn’t as bad as I thought and that I also love it more than I thought.

Being attacked by plotbunnies — a very vicious pair who are here to stay, happily chewing at my brain and taking over my room and stockpiling word-carrots. (I don’t even know where this sentence came from — apparently they’re taking my sanity too.)

READING

dec2016reads

Frantically reading through Once so that I could review it on time. (I’m sure there’s a great “once upon a time” pun in there somewhere if you’ll just give me and Baz a second.)

Collapsing happily into spontaneously re-reading three of Diana Wynne Jones’ Chrestomanci books aloud. ❤

Reading a book about writing which I actually adored. (FYI, this is Very Big News.)

Finishing some daily-readings books I’d been reading all year.

Finally getting to read Eight Days of Luke (because I got it for Christmas) and really enjoying it because Luke and DWJ writing and all the things!

LIFE & CHRISTMAS

Christmas tree and Christmas music — yay!

Spending a warm sunny afternoon writing Christmas cards while sitting on porch steps in the sun in short sleeves (and actually feeling too warm) while ladybugs made occasional visits; and, a little while later the same day, running hectically down the street in a strong cold wind while wearing a winter coat, to catch the post office on time. (Ah yes, a Texan “Blue Norther”. That was such a steep temperature change it was hilarious.)

Flailing over the Jayne from Firefly hat which SarahTPS made me for Christmas WHICH I CANNOT GET OVER AND I LOVE IT SO MUUUUCH! ❤

Having a lovely quiet Christmas with my family and getting excited about books which I received.

WATCHING

2016decmovies

(don’t ask what’s with the color-coding all grey-blue-white except for the western, because I have no idea how that happened)

Seeing Star Wars: Rogue One (enjoyed most of the movie — the humor and Cassian, anyway — and loathed the end).

Rewatching some Sherlock because You Know Why. *cue shrieking* (If you don’t know why, it’s because Season 4 is currently starting. o.o I’m currently too terrified to watch it because I value my non-shredded heart. Ahem.)

Rewatching Divergent and Insurgent, and watching Allegiant — kinda fun. 🙂

Watching The Deputy — buddy show!! I love Clay McCord and Simon Fry so much. ❤ They’re da best! ^_^

(And I forgot to put it in the picture, but I re-watched A Muppet Christmas Carol for Christmas and I just love that movie. :))

LISTENING

SCREENSAVE_REN1

Listening to the epic music from Ren: The Girl With the Mark, because I got the soundtrack download for Christmas — THIS MUSIC IS EPIC!

(have a taste — listen to part of this gorgeousness)

LINKS YOU MUST READ ❤

Reading possibly the best and most beautiful and true post that I have EVER read about Story and life, all wrapped up in Tolkien and Lewis quotes and the story of Christmas. It was by word-wizard DJ Edwardson and I highly recommend hopping over to his site and giving it a read!

Getting excited about the tutorial Cait @ PaperFury posted (which I hope to try out soon) about How to Make Origami Lucky Stars.
