Liebsterish Encore and Versatile Blogger Award

Firstly, I want to say — WOW, I love all the discussion that came out of my last post on books! That was fantastic. Thanks for weighing in in the comments, y’all! You are all so awesome, with such great thoughts, and discussing books is the BEST. 😀

Secondly, if you haven’t heard, Beyond the Mask just released on DVD!!! *cue excited squealing* I just rewatched it and alksdjflksjdlkj IT’S SO FABULOUS I LOVE IT SO MUCH. ❤ If you haven’t gotten a copy yet, you simply MUST. It’s such a wonderful movie, so much fun, so well done, so epic…! Masked-man, humor, 1700s, right before the Revolutionary War, John Rhys-Davies, fabulous acting, awesome costumes and sets, HUMOR, action, a touch of sweet romance, a theme of redemption, lovable characters, sheer epicness… WHAT IS NOT TO LOVE? It’s at bunches of Walmarts (at the moment), and, I hear, also Christian bookstores, and online. So go find it! Go go!

ISN’T IT SO PRETTY???

Okay, now I got those important thoughts out of the way, onward to the actual post! It’s about time I caught up on some tags again… *rubs hands gleefully*

liebster-award-3

I was, once again, nominated for the Liebster Award, this time by Sara Letourneau — thank you, Sara!

I’ve done it before but thought it would be fun to answer the questions anyway.

Rules

Here are the rules, which I’m mostly ignoring today because I am lazy. 😉 But feel free to snag this tag for your own blog if you wish!

  1. Once you are nominated, make a post that thanks the person who nominated you and links back to their article.
  2. Include the Liebster Award sticker in your post.
  3. Nominate 7 to 10 other bloggers who you feel are worthy of this award. Let them know they have been nominated by commenting on one of their posts. You can also nominate the person who nominated you.
  4. Answer the 10 questions asked to you by the person who nominated you.
  5. Make 10 questions of your own for your nominees.
  6. Lastly, copy these rules in the post.
  7. All of the nominees are free to accept or reject the nomination.

Questions

1. Pick one of your favorite writers. What do you admire most about their work?

Diana Wynne Jones. And… everything? Her books are just so hilarious but also have wonderful story worlds, fabulous mind-blowing plot twists, and brilliant characters who I love; and they’re even deep books when you go to look beyond the surface. But… well, I guess, mostly the humor and the characters. I wish I could write like that. I just… love everything of hers I’ve read. ❤

2. Do you have any weaknesses or guilty pleasures when it comes to food? If so, what?

Well, chocolate? But I maintain that’s not a weakness — it’s necessary. 😉 I like sweets; I guess that’s a guilty pleasure, even if I don’t necessarily eat them often. Also anything noodley/Italian. YES. ❤

3. What was the most daring or adventurous thing you did as a child?

Ha! Haha. How about… nothing? I don’t think I’ve ever been a very adventurous person. I do remember once sleeping in a non-heated house on an extremely cold night, just to prove I could. That’s probably the most daring thing I can come up with, and it wasn’t very. 😛

4. If you could visit any city, country, or landmark in the world that you’ve haven’t been to yet, where would you go?

The British Isles! All of the scenery and history… Mostly Scotland and Ireland, but also Wales and Cornwall and Stonehenge and… Yes.

5. What is your favorite type of setting? In other words, do you prefer beaches, lakes, mountains, cities, forests, etc.?

Forests, hands-down! They are the most beautiful, and relaxing-feeling, but also mysterious and… I don’t know. They just feel the best and look the best and I love forests.

6. What literary trope are you most tired of reading about?

I think I’ve mentioned this before, and I’m not sure if it counts, but I’m sick of the tough-girls. They simply annoy me to no end.

7. On the flipside, what is one thing you’d like to see more of in published novels?

Heists and con-artists, please! There are not enough of these tales. But they are just so fun. I keep looking for more…

8. What birthday or holiday gift do you cherish most?

The latest was Illusionarium by Heather Dixon. I so enjoyed that book! *flailing and fangirling squeals* *huggles it*

9. If you could invent one thing (technology, household appliance, computer program or app, etc.) that currently doesn’t exist, what would it be?

Well, probably some sort of thing to manipulate time so that I wouldn’t always waste it (ha!) and so I’d have time to do all the things I want; or maybe something that automatically transfers my stories in my head, perfectly, into words on paper. Yes. I’d like that.

10. What’s your favorite kind of weather? Do you prefer rainy days over sun, snow over heat, etc.?

After such a hot summer, I’m thinking COOL WEATHER AND RAIN PLEASE. But I don’t really know. I tend to change my mind to whatever is NOT currently happening. (I’m difficult to please and flighty like that.)

Versatile-Blogger-Award

I was also tagged by Rachana for the Versatile Blogger Award! Thank you, Rachana! I’d never gotten this one before… Makes me feel specials. ^_^ Check out her blog, do!

Rules

  • Thank the person who gave you this award — of course.
  • Include a link to their blog. They deserve to have some credits too.
  • Next, select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly.
  • Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award — you might include a link to this
  • Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.

I’m once again ignoring rules; sorry, I’m a rebel today. But here are some random facts…

7 Things About Me

1 – I’m really really super bad at coming up with facts about myself. (That’s a fact!)

2 – My hair is brown and longish and has a reddish tint in sunlight; I say it’s because of my Irish ancestors.

3 – I can play the pennywhistle, and I’m better at it with my eyes closed than open; my fingers know where to go unless I’m looking at them trying to remember for them.

4 – I love owls and have a painting of one on my wall, and also a wooden key-chain of one from Japan that my dear cousin gave me. It is adorable and I love it. ❤

5 – I love doing calligraphy, especially with Tolkien’s Elvish alphabet, Tengwar, even if I haven’t done much with it in a very long time.

6 – I dream a lot, and my dreams are usually extremely strange and fairly vivid; many of my story ideas are from dreams.

7 – I will sit and endlessly stare at the books on my bookshelf and daydream about what the books will be like when I read them. (Yes, I should probably just READ them to find out; but time! Time is key! And I don’t have it! Plus, books are just gorgeous to look at. DO NOT DENY IT.)

Tagging

(By the way, for the record… Who DOES like being tagged? Because I like being tagged — even if I don’t always get around to it — but I always have a hard time coming up with bloggers to tag in turn, especially not wanting to tag people all the time… And I’m not sure who likes tags?)

I’m not officially tagging anybody, but like I said, if you want to do either (or both!) on your blog, consider yourself officially tagged!

Double Liebster Award

Tag Catch-Up Post #2

So… In January and then again last month, I was tagged for the Liebster Award by C.B and Shantelle. Thanks for tagging me! ^_^ Although I’ve done it before, I thought it would be fun to answer the questions anyway! 🙂

But I’m going to ignore the rules for the most part. XD I’m not going to bother with 11 facts or tagging anybody, but if you want to answer any of the questions, feel free!

On with the show.

Questions from C.B. (post)

1. Do you wanna build a snowman?

YES. YES I DO. Unfortunately it’s like 100 degrees where I live right now, so that’s not going to happen… And even if it was winter, I don’t really get snow, I’m afraid… But I would LOVE to build a snowman if I could.

(from pinterest)

2. What is the craziest thing you’ve done during a game of hide-and-seek?

I… have no idea. Probably hiding in a curtain… I’m not a very imaginative hide-and-seek-er. XD

3. How many books do you have?

For real? O_O I’m feeling spectacularly lazy at this moment and I feel as though I have WAY too many books to count… Let’s just say I have three large bookcases stuffed with books, some shelves stacked, some 2 deep, plus some on my desk and dresser and bedside table… Um… Okay, I started counting and lost track somewhere around four or five hundred and gave up. How’s that? 😉 (Someday I’m going to have to post some pictures of my bookshelves and introduce them to y’all…)

4. Writers, what’s the most useful piece of writing advice you’ve ever gotten?

Probably this quote from Gillian Bronte Adams in an interview on The Dreaming Hobbit:

“Read the books you want to write, and write the books you want to read. And don’t try to do it alone. Far too often, I find myself striking out on my own, and the whole “lone wolf” writer thing is grand … until it’s not. Writing can be a lonely business, so make writing friends and encourage each other. You’ll both be the better for it.”

–Gillian Bronte Adams

GillianBronteAdamsQuote

5. Favorite type of fanfiction?

I don’t know… I’m afraid I don’t read a lot of fanfiction.

6. Which Avenger are you most like? (From the movie, not comic books)

Hawkeye. (I’m just going to say that and walk away like nothing happened…)

H12

7. Favorite Stan Lee cameo?

Um… Forgive me for being horribly out-of-it, but I only THINK I discovered what this really was recently. Is it that guy with the mustache who’s like one of the writers or something? Ahem. I have only noticed a couple of his cameos, so IF I’m correct in what I think they are, my favorite is definitely the one in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, when he’s a security guard and sees Captain America’s old uniform missing and goes: “Oh man, I am so fired.” That was hilarious. XD

8. Favorite writing resource?

Probably pinterest. XD If that counts…

9. Do you have trouble staying organized?

*bursts out laughing* That is a great question. Because I’m a perfectionist and pride myself on being super organized. And yet sometimes I feel like I’m the most disorganized person I know. So it just depends. But mostly I think I’m organized… Mostly…

10. Favorite school subject?

Hiiiistory. And anything related to words and writing and stuff like that.

(from pinterest)

11. Favorite food/food combination others don’t like?

I don’t know… maybe canned black olives? Combination… I can’t think of a weird one I like. Mostly my food is very tame and uninteresting… 😀

Questions from Shantelle (her post)

1) What is the driving passion of your life?

I don’t know. That may sound weird but… I don’t. It used to be writing, but I’m not so sure about that anymore. I feel a liiiittle bit lost these days. Mostly I’m just taking life a day at a time here and hoping the Lord will direct my feet to the path I should take. So I guess He’s my driving passion, because I tell ya, I’d be entirely lost without Him. 😉

2) Can you name a favorite character from a movie you’ve seen recently?

Dimitri, from Anastasia! He was kind of awesome…

anyadimitri

3) What’s one book (or chapter, verse, whatever…) of the Bible that has particularly touched you and why?

Um… All of it! For real, though. 🙂 But Psalms and Ruth and James and the Gospels come to mind…

4) How tall are you? *smiles*

I haven’t measured in awhile but I think somewheres in the 5′ 2″ area? All the gals I know seem to be like 5′ 10″ though… 😛 I feel like a small person in a world of tallness. (Perhaps that means I’m a Hobbit at heart…) And maybe my tall friends like having me around. XD

(from pinterest)

5) What’s one thing a book needs to have in order to make it a favorite for you?

I think that depends, because there are many things that I really enjoy a book for! (Humor, great plot or twist, characters, a dash of romance, great dialog…) But ultimately, I think for it to be a book I REALLY love, it has to have a character I love. Which normally seems to mean an awesome guy… What can I say. Intriguing fellas can make books so very interesting!

6) How did you start and what’s your favorite thing about blogging?

I started blogging to have a place on the internet of my own for my future writing self and to share my thoughts on books and writing. My favorite thing? Commenters. I absolutely love hearing from people about what they think! 🙂

7) What’s something exciting that has happened in your life recently?

Going to my first stage play, The Little Mermaid, last month. It was soooo much fun!

8) Why do you write (blogs, books, whatever)?

Because there are stories and characters and words and ideas in my head and I can’t not write them.

notebookwritingquote

(from pinterest)

9) Can you describe (or find a picture of) a different-era outfit that you’d love to wear?

Long sweeping gorgeous gowns, please. 😀 Specific dresses off the top of my head: Cinderella’s blue dress in the new movie, Eowyn’s white dress in The Two Towers, Arwen’s red and black dress in The Return of the King… But really I’d most love some sort of emerald-green dress with a sweeping skirt. ^_^ To look like a medieval forest princess, y’know. *nod nod* And… well… most things on my Costumes pinterest board. 😉

dresses

10) Favorite songs?

Never-Ending Road by Loreena McKennitt is my favorite. Then off the top of my head… Whispers in the Dark by Skillet, The Last Goodbye sung by Billy Boyd, lots of songs and melodies from soundtracks like The Return of the King, Brave, How to Train Your Dragon… How many am I allowed? 😉

11) Any advice for your fellow Christian bloggers/writers?

Stay true to yourself and the Word, and don’t be afraid to write what you think. 🙂

***

So there you go, everyone! My randomness for the day. 😀 Hope it wasn’t entirely boring…

Feel free to snag the questions if you want — or answer some in the comments!

And mostly I’m curious… did you learn anything new about me, or did you feel like you knew all of this already? 😉

Liebsterish Questions

I’m way overdue for a Liebster Award blog post, as I’ve been given it by three people — one in March, one in April, and one back a couple Decembers ago before I even had a blog… But I’m finally going to do them!

The rules to the Liebster Award as I’ve encountered it seem to usually be along these lines:
1. Thank the person who tagged you and link back to them
2. List a number (it seems to vary) of facts about yourself
3. Answer the questions given you by your tagger
4. Give the same number of questions for the next people to answer
5. Tag that number of people (who are supposed to have less than 200 followers)
6. Inform the tagged ones that they have been nominated

Since there are so many questions, instead of listing random facts about me I’m just going to answer the questions. And I’ll try to follow the less-than 200 thing but it’s sometimes hard to know.

*proceeds to answer 32 random questions* (This may get long…)

Lisa of God’s Daughter 4 Ever tagged me, and since she didn’t give questions but answered the questions given to her and the questions given to the person before her, she said to pick 11 of the 22 questions to answer, so I have… Thank you, Lisa dear!

1. If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Um. I think I’ll pick “food”. That way I have all my options covered…

2. Do you have a favorite letter?

Not really… L’s are nice. And I seem to be strangely addicted to giving characters names starting with T’s.

3. Chocolate or peanut butter?

Chocolate all the way! Or… nutella.

4. Which is your favorite hair color: pink, blue, or green?

All of those are rather unusual, and though I love the color green I’m going to have to go with blue because I think it looks the least weird as a hair color. (Or maybe I could say purple… I have a character with purple hair.)

5. Do you work well under pressure or snap?

Depends. If it’s NaNoWriMo, then an intriguing combination of the two…

6. What’s your favorite music genre/band?

Celtic music and beautiful soundtracks are my favorite genres. My favorite band is probably The Chieftains.

7. Do you like to bake?

Sometimes, when I feel like it.

8. Batman or Superman?

Batman if I have to choose between the two. But I’ll just pick Hawkeye instead.

9. What was/is your best subject in school?

Anything relating to writing and words and English and stuff. Maybe history too.

10. Do you do your own thinking or allow others to just give you the information?

I try to do my own thinking, but it is useful to have others give me information to think about…

11. What’s your favorite ink color?

Plain ol’ black. ‘Tis pretty.

***

Questions from jsleflore, who tagged me in March. Thanks so much!

1) What inspires you?

Music. Pretty pictures. Walking in the woods.

2) Sunrises or sunsets and why?

Sunsets. There’s just something about the evening drawing to a close and the pretty colors in the sky, and then the stars coming out. (That, and I don’t usually get up early enough to see the sunrise…)

3) If you could breed two animals together to defy the laws of nature what new animal would you create?

I wouldn’t want to do that, but as far as fantasy hybrid animals go, I’ve always thought Griffins were cool.

4)  What’s the last thing you took a picture of?

Some cool looking old steps at a State Park.

5) If you could learn any language fluently what would it be and why?

Gaelic/Irish/Welsh/all the Celtic languages. Because I love Celtic things. Plus, pretty.

6) What is the name of your alter ego and why?

I’m not sure I have an alter ego…

7) Have you ever used the phrase “back in my time” to someone younger than you?

Yep. Which is humorous considering “back in my time” wasn’t so very long ago…

8) Do you have any unusual fears or phobias?

Does talking on the phone count? Because I really don’t like doing that.

9) Do you prefer to wash in the mornings or evenings?

Dunno.

10)  What’s the funniest rumor you started?

I’m not very good at rumors, humorous or otherwise…

Liebster Blog Award

A very very long time ago (seriously, we’re talking ancient history here) I was tagged by the lovely Mirriam Neal, even though I didn’t have a blog at the time. So since I do have one, since they’re such fun questions, I’m going to go ahead and do it, late though I may be. Thanks a million, Mirri!

1. Do you create playlists for your novels when you write, or do you write better without music?

Usually when I write I have inspirational music on. But sometimes I’ll find songs or tunes that go really well with a story or character I’m writing, in which case I’ll listen to those. I don’t usually make playlists for specific books, but I’ve been starting to do that more lately.

2. Is there anything you have given up in order to be able to write?

. . . My sanity? Oh, sorry, no, wrong answer. *cough* I’d say I’ve lost a lot of sleep. Staying up late, or getting up at 2 a.m. to write a scene that’s bugging me to write it. Seiously, what’s sleep when there’s a story to write?

3. What character (not your own) has moved or inspired you the most? Why?

Um . . . I have no idea how to answer this one. I can’t think of one in particular.

4. Have you ever seen a real-life version of your character walking down the street?

Sadly, no. Online very occasionally though…

5. Have you ever been inspired by something completely random and strange?

Oh yes. Random and strange things are absolutely fantastic. They are my friends.

6. Have you ever come up with a fantastic idea, only to find out that someone in the past stole it from you?

ALL. THE. TIME. But worse than finding it in the past is already having written an idea, and suddenly everyone else has it, but you *know* you had it first . . ! This happens to me more than I would like.

7. Is there one thing people tend to say all the time that you absolutely hate?

I can’t think of anything like that right now . . . and I’m wondering if that is a bad thing or not. *laughs*

8. Is there a Tumblr you go to for inspiration?

Nope. I’ve never understood Tumblr. There are several friend’s Pinterests however that are highly inspirational…

9. What does your writing space look like?

I started by describing it, but . . . a picture’s worth a thousand words. So here’s a glimpse of it.

writingspace
10. Do you have a ‘routine’ for writing?

In general, I almost always have to have an outline before I write something. When I’m ready to do some writing, I tend to turn on my music and close my door, shutting myself into the world of my story, and generally hope to have at least an hour of uninterrupted writing time (probably why I don’t write as often as I should). Sometimes I act the scene out a bit or reimagine it in my head. And occasionally I find inspiration by sitting outside to write. If “routine” is supposed to mean “habit or particular time I write”, I’m afraid I don’t have those… Which I need to change.

11. Have you ever been struck with creative lightning at an inappropriate time?

YES. The middle of the night is the most common . . . I have fortunately taken to always having something around to take notes on. Seriously, ideas, pick some better times, won’t you? (But really, I don’t care. Inspiration, you may strike whenever you wish. I’ll be here waiting . . .)

***

And now to pass it along.

11 Questions for the Tagged Ones:

1. Do you name your electronics?

2. What color is your hair?

3. Do you prefer libraries or bookstores?

4. At this moment, if you could magically have any kind of food (or drink) what would you wish for?

5. If you had to pick between never drinking tea or coffee again, which would you choose?

6. Who is your latest favorite character that you’ve “met” and why?

7. Do you own multiple unused journals/notebooks and if so how many?

8. In your writing, are you a plotter or a pantser?

9. What’s your favorite genre?

10. Favorite theme song from TV or movie?

11. Happy endings? Tragic? Bittersweet?

Hmm… Since I just did the Sunflower tag recently, I’m going to try to tag other people. This might be hard…
