Sunshine Blogger Award

(photography by me)

I don’t know about you, but personally I could use a little sunshine during this cold time of year! So it’s fortunate that I was tagged by Daley Downing @ The Invisible Moth for The Sunshine Blogger Award! Thanks, Daley! ^_^

And I’ll get straight to the tag questions…

WHO IS THE ONE PERSON THAT IS THE SUNSHINE IN YOUR LIFE?

I’m going to steal Daley’s answer and say it’s not fair to make me choose. XD I will say my family (particularly my sister) and my lovely online friends (particularly Christine). I have SO many beautiful sunshine people who brighten my life, and chances are, if you’re reading this, you’re one of them! ❤

DO YOU PREFER ALL HAPPY MOVIES, OR OCCASIONAL SAD MOVIES?

Definitely happy! I won’t mind if some of it’s sad as long as it turns out okay (and my favorite characters live. XD) but really sad ones are not my favorite.

WHAT IS THE ONE FOOD THAT ALWAYS MAKES YOU HAPPY?

(pinterest)

Fettuccine Alfredo or Chicken Tortellini — they’re the best! ❤ (And hey, strawberry Häagen-Dazs ice cream — that’s a food, right? 😉 )

WHAT IS THE SUNSHINE ON YOUR BLOG?

Any time someone reads my little scribbles and leaves a comment with their thoughts. I so appreciate you guys! ❤

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE WACKY “FUN” DAY?

I… don’t know. Maybe kayaking, if we’re talking unusual kinds of fun. Or wandering around in bookstores and libraries.

Or, if I’m being honest, giving myself an internet/computer vacation and turning off my laptop for a day and giving myself permission to just read anything I want, not just books on my current need-to-read list. XD

(pinterest)

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU LOVE ABOUT YOURSELF?

I don’t go with the flow; I have to do things MY way, even if my opinions make me feel like I’m the only person who feels that way. XD

(quote from Captain America: Civil War. Image designed by me on Canva.com)

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU LOVE ABOUT THE BLOGGING COMMUNITY?

I love when people encourage each other and lift one another up, just being there and understanding. 🙂

WHAT IS THE ONE BOOK THAT MADE YOU SMILE THE MOST?

(goodreads)

Howl’s Moving Castle can always be counted on to make me smile. ^_^

WHERE IS YOUR CORNER OF SUNSHINE IN YOUR HOME?

I love to curl up in my big comfy chair in my room and read or write or journal, or just stare at the books on my bookcase. And sometimes there will be a literal beam of sunshine on my bed, where I might curl up with my kitty and nap (particularly during NaNo. XD).

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR OR COLORS?

Forest green, and light blue. I’m also partial to silver and gold colors…

WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE (OR DRAMA) THAT ALWAYS MAKES YOU HAPPY?

How about the Pixar short film “La Luna”? That one ALWAYS does. ^_^

TAGGING:

I tag Jenelle, Madeline, Mary, and Christine, and anyone reading this who wants to! No pressure. 🙂 Just let me know if you do it so I can read your thoughts!

On a related note, if you like to be tagged for things, let me know in the comments below! I haven’t done one for awhile, so I’m a little rusty, and I’d like to know so that I might remember to tag those of you who want to be tagged, in the future! ^_^

Thanks for reading! ❤

In the Merry Month of May… {2016} Ishness

ishness

May 2016

Time for another Ishness! Once question though: How, exactly, is it June already? I have absolutely no CLUE what on earth has happened to this year… Isn’t it still February? WHAT EVEN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME. Ahem. Anyhoo, here’s what’s up with me as of this last month.

Life

For much of the month I was dreadfully sick with a nasty flu and had a lot of dead internet (whaddayaknow, it’s STILL dead! *surprise* We had 8 straight days with internet in the midst of May which was glorious and then BOOM gone again…), so that was all very exciting and made for me falling behind on a lot of things… But other than that I had a pretty great month because writing and movies and books happened… so on to that! 🙂

Writing

KW2coverPI wrote 2000+ words in May, mostly snippets for The Other Half of Everything and some for The Secret of Kedran’s Wood. I also finally started the next chapter of KW2, which I’ve been meaning to do for a very long time. I think Tare finally woke up from his exhaustion that I put him into around NaNo, and at last has gotten jealous of Teague; consequently Tare has been talking to me again. This is very good news. 😀

A bit slow on writing still, mostly just snippets all over the place, but I’m just glad to have a bit of writing instead of nothing. (I know, I’m beginning to sound like a broken record, writing 2k three months in a row mostly on snippets…)

OHEcover

(pics used to make this “cover” were all found on pinterest & I don’t own them etc. and it’s just for fun)

I also analyzed why I’m stuck on literally every single one of my WIPs. Which is bad in one sense because I’m stuck, but good in another sense because at least now I know WHY. Don’t know where to go from here but it looks like I may only be writing disconnected snippets for awhile until I get all my plots figured out and decide if I need to rewrite some stuff.

I’m also starting to worry that I may be able to write Other Half of Everything snippets till the cows come home but seem to be having a distressingly difficult time writing actual writing in chapter one. So snippets = easy. Actual book = I can’t. This is very bad. I may have to write the whole book out of order and sew it together, I dunno… >.> We’ll see. But I love Teague and Meridian and Lulin and Ivan and am having fun so that’s good.

That’s what’s up with me on the writing front! 🙂 I will give you snippets because I’m nice like that. XD

Blogging

Le posts of mine from the last month:

Book blog posts:

Reading

I had another slow reading month… but the things that I DID read were 100000% awesome, so. 😀

May2016Reads

Aaaall the whimsical fantasy books with purple/blue/pink covers. ❤ *huggles them*

For mini-review-ish things/flailing on all of these, you can hop over to my May Reading Roundup post on my book blog. 🙂 (Warning: Much fangirling. May blast your eyeballs out with its amount/intensity. *cough*)

Oh, and I’ve also been beta-reading some AWESOME stories by lovely writer friends. Including The Dead Boy and the Paper Cut by Cait which… Yeah. Wow. The snaaaark. ❤ Just… take my heart, Cait. Just take it. *melts in puddle of feels*

Watching

I saw The Avengers 2.5 Captain America: Civil War. Twice. (I obviously want to watch it another million times but twice will have to do for now.) ALLOW ME TO MAKE SOME NOISE ON THIS COUNT THANK YOU. I mean, obviously I’m not happy with some of the goings on a.k.a. pretty much the ENTIRE PLOT because I don’t want my precious people to be fighting, and it kind of just ENDED without any proper conclusion. BUUUUT interestingly all of this had absolutely no effect on my enjoyment of the movie because honestly I’m just there for the characters so if they’re on the screen… yep, I’m pretty happy. I mean, sure, there’s stuff I didn’t like; I could complain about that all day; but I’m not going to because honestly where does it get us? Nowhere. Basically I irrationally really enjoyed it BECAUSE BUCKY AND HAWKEYE AND CAPTAIN AMERICA AND EVERYONE so I kinda loved it for absolutely no reason and want to see it again. (And Bucky. Buckyyyyyy. *shrieking* Andandand Hawkeye yessss.)

Basically this is me:

HAPPY BUCKY. HAPPY ME. (pinterest)

Also Beauty and the Beast teaser trailer! EEEP! *flails* I NEED IT TO BE MARCH 17TH RIGHT NOW PLZ. ❤

Internet: there’s a B&B teaser trailer.

Me: *proceeds to watch it 2093750938409 times*

Me: *posts it on blog so that I can have excuse to watch it again and because if you haven’t seen it yet you need to ASAP*

And I’m still watching that western show, The Deputy AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH AAAHH. ❤ I love “buddy” stories and these buddies are fabulous. XD You will probably not hear the end of this anytime soon because there are like 70 episodes and I haven’t run out yet… 😀

June Plans

My June plans consist basically of: read the things, write the things, and stop stressing about it; also try to survive life. That’s a good idea…

Oh! And very exciting things happening beginning later this month on this blog and throughout the blogosphere… I will give you a hint: it involves that “Fantasy Oscars” kind of thing I may have mentioned before. So watch out for that because we’re going to need YOU to be involved! 🙂

Also, many apologies to everyone if I’m kinda absent/behind on all the internet things. I hope to have internet again sometime but I really don’t know. If I’m late on replying to comments or something, IT’S NOT BECAUSE I DON’T LOVE YOU CAUSE I DO. ❤

So that’s my May. How was yours? Tell me all! 🙂

April Showers (Ishness!)

May the Forth be with you.*

Just getting that out there…

*Which is what would happen if Twinkle became a Star Wars fan. (If you “understood that reference”, you get cookies. Likely from the Dark Side, but still cookies.)

ishness

April 2016

Anyway! An ishness post for you today! (Because I have internet again, which calls for a huge celebration. Namely blogging.)

Here’s what I was up to this last month…

Writing

I did not in fact attempt Camp NaNo, for which I’m proud of me. I could definitely not have survived that. To anyone who even attempted it: I applaud you.

CampAprilFoolFunny story: Since Camp starts on April Fool’s Day, I pulled a prank on the fam, dramatically entering a room and announcing “I have decided . . . to do Camp NaNo.” (After repeatedly telling them not to let me do it, and that I didn’t WANT to, and that it would be very bad if I did.) They fell for it, too, since it’s just the sort of insane thing I would do (deciding ON THE FIRST DAY to do Camp, even when I said I wasn’t going to). It was rather hilarious. Don’t worry, I promptly said “April Fool” as soon as the stares-of-horror and face-palming had put in appropriate cameos. Then we all had a good laugh.

But that’s for what I didn’t do. So what did I do, you ask?

I wrote 2,000 ish words during April, which some may call puny but, frankly, given the state of my writer’s block and how little I’ve written this year, I will gladly take. 🙂

OHEbannerfinal2

IMcover3 That was a bit of The Other Half of Everything, wherein Teague and Meridian FINALLY (after, like, a whole page…) meet, ever so briefly… I must continue the scene sometime.

I also randomly wrote a scene of The Invisible Mask. Which likely no one remembers, given that the last time I wrote in it was like a year or three ago. Very random, I tell you. Quite mysterious. I don’t know what the writing life is coming to.

Snippets

IMsnippet

My poor Kenneth lad. ❤ And his day only gets worse! (If you think he gets a “quiet meal” then you’re as mistaken as Kenneth is.)

OHEsnippet

I’ve never written in first-person longer than a short story. I’ve discovered that unreliable narrators are fun. I adore being in Meridian’s brain. XD

Blogging

Around here:

On my book blog:

I also went on a graphic-making spree, updating some of my blog things… What think ye? 🙂 (Yes, you’re allowed to say you liked the old ones better; I’m just curious. ;))

I kind of got addicted to making graphics. I sometimes go overboard and then get it out of my system. 😛

Reading

So… I hardly read anything this month. But, to be fair, King’s Folly was ginormous, so. 😉 I did at least love all the books I DID read, so that’s a plus. *nodnod*

Watching

I’ve been watching an old Western show called The Deputy. It’s a lot of fun. 🙂 It’s about a Marshall named Simon Fry and his (reluctant and occasional) deputy, Clay McCord, both of whom are awesome and so much fun together. Because “buddy movies” are awesome especially when they annoy each other. 😉 (Also, Clay looks a lot like Dean Winchester. Just sayin’.)

Life

  • You know how this post is called April Showers? Well it certainly rained a lot. And that leads to the next point…
  • The biggest “thing” that happened in April was not having internet in the second half of it, for over two weeks, largely due to said rain. I got it back yesterday. I’m super behind on internet things, for which I apologize!
  • I saw Toby Mac, Colton Dixon (yay!) and several other contemporary Christian music artists in concert together, which was a lot of fun!
  • I’m sure other stuff happened by my mind is blank as to what the nature of said stuff may have been. I should keep better notes. But really, April went by faster than it had any right to. Seriously! The nerve of that month! Sheesh.

May Plans

I’m a bit in shock that it’s May. Like, “Excuse me? WE ARE A THIRD OF THE WAY INTO THE YEAR THIS IS NOT OKAY” kind of shock.

May-ish plans include:

  • I have beta-reading to do. A LOT of beta-reading to do… Hopefully it will be fabulous and not involve as much procrastinating as usual.
  • I must review The Beautiful Pretender by Melanie Dickerson, so watch for that. Spoiler: I loved it.
  • I’m going to be joining in the Paper Crowns blog tour for Mirriam Neal’s book Paper Crowns which I beta-read back in the day, LOVED, and is now available! (*cue squeeing*) Check out the giveaway and tour stops, because it will be going all month long!
  • I don’t know if I’ll get to see Captain America 3 or not but I’m very nervous/stressed about it. If I do see it, it will only be because Hawkeye and Bucky are the best of ever and I must watch every milisecond of film containing their precious selves. #TeamHawkeye #TeamBucky
  • I want to figure out what I’m doing in my writing life because it’s a mess, I tell you. Pretty much all of my stories have decided they hate life and/or me, for one reason or another.
  • I have lots of reading I want to do. ALL of the reading.
  • Of course, life is going to be so insanely busy this month that I have a feeling it’s going to take one look at all my plans, laugh in their face(s) and proceed to utterly destroy them like a hurricane passing by an innocent-bystander bowl full of rainbow confetti. But. You know. Such is life.

How about you? How was your April and what are your May plans? Tell me all! 🙂

Encrypted Fangirl Message

We interrupt your regular reading schedule of rather lengthy semi-coherent posts usually about writing and books on The Road of a Writer to bring you the interesting (?) phenomenon of a brief message from a screaming, flailing, entirely incoherent fangirl who claims to be dying of “all the feels” or some such.

For those who understood that reference* that message, thank you for reading. For others, we apologize that we cannot provide a translation at this time as our staff is mysteriously missing and/or incapacitated and cite above message and NaNo as culprits of this phenomenon.

We now return to our regularly scheduled program. Thank you.
