This one was a tag from Sarah @ Light and Shadows, the If I Had a Million Dollars: Writer Edition Tag! Which . . . er . . . rather explains itself, methinks.
Rules:
- Post the picture
- Link back to the person who tagged you
- List 10 things you’d buy or do if you had a million dollars (preferably writing-related, but whatever works)
- Tag some other writers
Ten Things
(Keep in mind this is for fun, so if I ACTUALLY suddenly got a million dollars, I’d probably do things a lot differently, for actual life things and for others, etc., but still. This is focusing on writerly things…)
- Get a new laptop after mine is gone. I love my current one but it’s turning 5 years old next month and the wear and tear is beginning to get to it… (Battery lasts like 3 minutes, overheats, cable is bent, mouse clicker is loose, the “A” key has a tendency to fall off, etc…) It’s working surprisingly well though, those little things aside, and I’m so thankful for that! I so hope it will last a long time…
- Books. Looots of books.
- More bookshelves. To hold the lots of books.
- …A new house to hold the bookshelves. Preferably a lovely piece of forested land somewheres. *nods* There would be a whole room at least devoted to being a library…
- I would also give SO many books of various kinds to friends. It would be absolutely lovely.
- Go to a few writer’s conferences. (You thought I was going to get totally distracted by bookish things and forget the writing part, right? XD)
- DASH AROUND THE COUNTRY AND VISIT ALL MY WRITER FRIENDS!! That would totally be inspirational, and just downright fun. ❤
- Travel to the British Isles. I’d spend several months exploring Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, England, the Isle of Man…
- Open a bookstore probably. Because why not. And it would have comfy nooks for reading, and sell coffee and snacks (probably snacks from books) and have a meeting room in the back for writer meetings, and…
- Publishing. Possibly self-publish my books if I could afford to get the word out and do everything right as far as covers/editing/marketing etc.? (Or maybe I could just be so well off that I meet the right higher-ups people in some big publishing company, which would be awesome too. *shrug*)
Bonus — 11: Start a writer/bookish conference of my own somewhere near where I live and entice all my writer/bookish friends to come see me there! …Actually I should seriously do this one. *nods* CALLING ALL TEXAN AUTHORS/WRITERS/BLOGGERS/BOOKWORMS — WANNA MEET IN THE MIDDLE SOMEWHERE? 😛
This is great! I just remembered that Raychel actually tagged me for this way before when she had first made it! I’ll definitely be doing this sometime! 😀
BOOOOKS! I would buy so many… XD
If you ever open that bookstore, I will most certainly come to it. And I will go to your writing conferences/meetings too. *nods*
Traveling around the world would be fun too! I’ve always dreamed of going to Europe…
Great tag, Deborah! ❤

That would be fun if you did!
ALL THE BOOKS!
Hurray! I should definitely start a bookstore and conference, then. XD
Yes to Europe! Good choice. 😉
Thank you, Madeline!! ^_^

YES TO ALL OF THIS. Well, except my laptop’s still pretty young. I’ve had Percival for a little over three years. Which…I guess is actually kind of a long time. 😛
BOOKS. BOOKSHELVES. A NEW HOUSE FOR BOOKS. GIMME ALL THE BOOKISH THINGS.
Ooh, a writer’s conference would be fun! I’ve never actually been to one before, but I’d like to someday. ^_^
YES COME AND SEE MEEEE. When you get a million dollars, come on over to where I live so we can flail over books together. XD
I realllllly want to go to the British Isles. EEP! I also want to visit New Zealand and France and Iceland and basically everywhere. I need more money. XD
It’s actually my dream to open a bookstore. I’ve talked with some of my fellow writer friends, and we came to the consensus that we need to become best-selling authors and open a bookstore together. XD Which means you should totally join us. *nods*
So many bookish and writerly things! AHHHH I’M JUST LOVING THESE TAGS. 😀

Your laptop is named Percival. I LOVE THIS. 😀
ALL OF THE BOOK THINGS YUSSS.
I’ve never been to a writer’s conference before either… but they sound like they might be fun/interesting. 🙂
I TOTALLY WILL!!! (Not that I know where you live or anything, but if I did get a million dollars I’m sure we could work it out then. XDDD)
British Isles! The others sound like good choices too. *nods*
THAT IS GREAT. Fabulous bookstore plan. I approve. 😀
Thank you, Mary! I’m glad you’re enjoying them!! 🙂 Though… these were the writerly tags this week, so there’ll be more random ones after this. XD But still fun. 😉

I my or may not know the reason you want to go to Wales XD.
This tag was SO fun to read – I loved your idea for a writer’s conference. I WOULD SO TOTALLY ATTEND *nods*. (also, I’m now feeling like my laptop is very young – I’ve only had it for a year!)
And I think that I might just steal this tag XD. Loving your blogaversary celebrations so far!

Yes! I loved this post! Who did you tag?
I actually work with self-publishers… What I do is I have the person who wants to publish their book (we’ll call her, Allie XD ) send me (the manager of this little thing) $50 -$60. What I do then, Is I pay her $40 to design the cover (you would be saving money by doing it through me, since the normal charge is $180). I use the other $10 to pay my editor. Then, if Allie pays me $60, I keep $10. See? I did this because normally, people would have to pay a BIG price for just the cover. Then, an even BIGGER price for the editor. And then, they would have to take their own time emailing back and fourth between their editor, cover artist, and so on! But what I do is I just make it all a shorter, easier, more tolerable process. Get it?
Anyway, great post!

Thanks, Allie! And I didn’t tag anyone specific, just leaving the tag open for anyone to consider themselves tagged if they want to do it. 🙂 So if you want to, you are tagged! 😀
Hmm, sounds like an interesting business model. Neat! 🙂
Thank you!

All the books. I can’t really think of anything to add to this list… I probably wouldn’t open a bookshop simply because I haven’t the time to run one… but I would buy some land, build the dream version of our dream house (complete with a library and secret passageways and hidden doors), buy a lot of books (for myself and for others), commission more bookshelves to hold all my new books, and spend whatever was left (probably not much at that point, a million dollars doesn’t go as far when you include buying a house) on marketing or additional editors for future books. 🙂

Also, I would totally come to your book conference… if it were closer to Wisconsin 😉

Ah, I’d come to Texas… as long as you don’t have it in the middle of the summer. 😉

Boooooks. ❤ And yeah, I probably wouldn't have time for a bookshop either, but this is all make-believe anyway, right? 😉 Secret passageways/hidden doors… I approve. *nods* And yeah, that's fair. Great ideas! And haha, yeah, I take it you're not that into heat. XD A spring event it would have to be, then! 😉

SO MUCH YES TO EVERYTHING. Just…just…ALL THE YESSS. There would be no point for to do this tag because I’d just copy and paste your answers basically. XD ALL DA BOOKISH THINGS. And I am in looove with this idea of a book house in the forest. YES PLEASE.
*flails hand in the air* I want to come to a Celti writing conference!!! If only… *wishful sigh*
This list is perfect. I…I have no other words.

Oh, hey! Something I tagged you for!
I like your answers, and I definitely agree with most of them! (I think that when I did this, I used the logic of “Everything in my life goes back to writing somehow, so therefore whatever I do with the money is technically sort of writing related” and just said what I’d do with the million dollars, writerly or otherwise.)
I also love the idea of starting a writers’ conference! I would dearly love to put one together that meets at White Sulpher Springs (y’know, the place I generally call Rivendell), but I have no idea how I’d go about it. So. Yeah.

Yes indeed! Thank you again! ‘Twas fun! ^_^
Glad you liked my answers, and yes, yours made super sense too I thought! 😀 Life is definitely related. *nods*
You could call it the Rivendell writers’ conference. XD But yeah, it would hard to figure out how to start one, but fun if one could! 🙂

Sounds like you know exactly what to do with one million dollars!
It’s strange, I wouldn’t have thought of #6 at first. But you’re right, it should go on the list. It seems as if all the best writing conferences require long plane trips. I don’t have the money for that sort of travel!

Haha, thanks, I’m glad you think so! 😀
Conferences all seem to have fairly hefty attendance fees, as far as I can tell, on top of the cost of traveling… $500-$1000 or more conferences would be nice to go to but not very practical for this here broke bookworm at the moment! 😉

YES. YES YES YES. Buying all the books, going to conferences, building a house to HOLD all the books, replacing your laptop (mine is about 4-5 years old, but aside from needing a new battery and being a bit heavier than I’d like, it’s doing alright)–I’d do all of that, too. ^_^
Ooh, how about a house like Mr. Norrell’s, off in the woods, with a gorgeous library? Except I’d totally have to include all those hidden doors and passages like Jenelle was talking about. (So glad I’m not the only one who wants that in their dream house!)

Wow, I guess my Million-Dollar-Writing ideas are very similar to what everyone else would do too. XD I love it. 😀 (Glad to hear your laptop’s holding up! Mine turned 5 yesterday and I’m just like wut. o.o)
YUS, a house like Mr. Norrell’s in the woods with a library and Jenelle hidden passages would be AWESOME. I like that idea. 😀 (Nope, not the only one — I think everyone wants secret passages and hidden doors. XD)
