Favorite Screen Characters Tag

(I really should have titled this post “In Which I Fangirl a Ton”…)

So I’ve been tagged by both Victoria and Tracey for the “Favorite Screen Characters Tag”! So I thought I should do it. 😉 Do check out their awesome blogs! Stori Tori’s Blog and Tracey Dyck: Adventure Awaits!

The rules for this tag are to list your ten favorite characters from movies or TV, and to tag ten other bloggers. We’ll see how this goes…

Okay. Ten is not nearly enough, so these are going to be fairly random, off-the-top-of-my-head-ish, and not necessarily my FAVORITES, but a good selection, and not in any particular order.

I’m keeping a one-character-per-movie rule so that I don’t end up with only Lord-of-the-Rings-and-Hobbit characters and Avengers… >.> Also I am keeping it down to live-action because that’s how it ended up. (Even though I love Hiccup and Toothless and Flynn Rider and Jack Frost and Howl and… yes. *cough* I will just stop now. TEN IS FAR TOO FEW. *wails*) And somehow this ended up entirely a list of guys. Whoops.

Um. Yes. Anyways, I had to make some rules, otherwise I would be here all day — or possibly not here at all because I would be trying to wrestle it down to ten and would be at it for the next several hundred years… Ahem.

(Fortunately this isn’t a BOOK characters tag… Because then I’d really be doomed. XD)

On with the show!

(…Get it? Show? *cough* Okay I’ll stop with the puns. >.>)

Eliot (Leverage)

First of all, we just need to take a moment to talk about how amazing Eliot Spencer is. He’s from Leverage, a super awesome crimey-heisty-con-artist-robin-hood-ish show, where each member of the team has their expertise. Eliot’s? He’s the fighter. You know that whenever Eliot’s around, everything will be okay because he always wins. (Or… Almost always.) If I was on a quest and could pick sidekicks, I’d want me an Eliot to keep me safe. You know you can trust him to do the best thing and do it well. I love his interactions with the other characters in the show who I love too. But Eliot can basically do any kind of fighting and is just beyond awesome. (Plus he can cook. Like, really cook. Like, we’re talking gormet, and he’s really passionate about it. Which of course is splendidly awesome because of how much it doesn’t go with the rest of him. Except they both can involve knives. But still. And he can sing too. Really well. I mean, is there ANYTHING this guy can’t do? Pretty much: no.) I only “met” him this year, but he’s definitely one of my favorite screen characters ever. He’s a very distinctive kind of hero.

Thranduil (The Hobbit films)

Do I even need to explain this one? For real, now. He is THRANDUIL and is just entirely awesome. His sort of grand aloof grumpiness, his hair, the way he talks with his flowing speeches, his elegance, fighting skills, general reclusiveness, the way he tilts his head, his MOOSE… Can we just talk about how awesome his moose is? ❤ Plus he’s the Elvenking of Mirkwood and Legolas’s DAD for goodness’ sake. (Thranduil is, not the moose…) Thranduil is just all around… well… FABULOUS. ‘Nuff said.

Aragorn (The Lord of the Rings films)

Don’t die of shock that Faramir isn’t listed here… Faramir is definitely my favorite Lord of the Rings character, book and film, hands down, BUT since they did mess up his character somewhat in the films I’m just going to have to go with Aragorn because of his sheer wonderfulness. I almost don’t need to even say anything about Aragorn, since we all know (or should!) how awesome he is. But he’s like the ideal hero, a great leader, and so so so noble. I think he like defines “noble heroic leader”. Seriously. And a super good fighter and the best Ranger ever. If I ever end up in a fantasy world, I need Aragorn. Plus he’s super nice, and understanding, and superbly kingly. And he never gives up even when he’s fighting against insurmountable odds and I just… More people need to be like Aragorn. Plus he’s just epic.

Hawkeye (The Avengers, etc.)

H18

HAWKEYE IS JUST THE BEST AVENGER OKAY. He was my favorite even in the first movie, where, let’s face it, he didn’t get a lotta screen time. But even then! I love superheroes the best when they don’t have actual superpowers, and instead have talent and gadgets and skill. He’s just a really clever/intelligent guy, who is super well trained in everything. Plus he’s a super skilled left handed archer with fantastic arrows that do anything. Awesome, much? The extra screen time he got in Avengers 2 just killed me with happiness. All the humor and epic! I feel like he was the heart of that movie. ^_^ …Of course, that could just be me… *cough* But Hawkeye is just the absolute best.

Mal (Firefly/Serenity)

So Captain Malcom Reynolds can have his problems, but overall he’s a really great, determined guy, who always looks after the best interests of his crew on his spaceship Serenity. He’s technically something like a thief, but he’s generally an honorable one… Just one man trying to make his way in the galaxy and keep his freedom. I don’t know why, but I just really really like Mal! He’s kind of amazing. But watch out if you try to do anything to his ship or his crew. You don’t want to be on his bad side… Oh, and I love his interactions with all the crew members. He’ll surprise you all the time with his unexpected heroism and awesomeness. And he can be pigheaded, and stubborn, and blunt, and sometimes hilarious. And once he sets his mind on something, he will never ever ever give up until he’s carried it out, no matter the odds. In the end, he can be the most surprising hero of all. Mal’s just awesome. Just try to come up with anyone more awesome!

Duchy (Sea Patrol)

I don’t know what he’s doing here… But I somehow ended up watching part of an Australian TV show called Sea Patrol. I haven’t seen a super large amount of episodes, and I’ll be honest: I mostly watch it for the accents. I am shallow like that. But what can I say?? Australian accents are just awesome! (As are British, Scottish, Irish, etc…) I love a bunch of the characters in the show, which is about the crew of an Australian Navy ship, but Duchy somehow turned out my favorite, even though he replaced my previous favorite so when I first watched him, I wanted to hate him. But then he became my favorite. Yeah. So that didn’t quite work out… But he is just super loyal and brave, to the point of rash stupidity at times, and has some problems but he also knows how to have fun and I don’t even know. He’s just kinda great.

Micky (Hustle)

So let’s talk about my other favorite crimey-heisty-con-artist-robin-hood-ish show. Hustle is one of THE best BBC shows ever and it is sad that nobody ever notices it. (And it is also sad that I can’t watch it anymore because the whatsit stopped carrying that channel. Allow me to go sob in the corner for awhile here…) I love each and every one of the characters in this show SO MUCH, but I had to pick Micky as my favorite. He’s the brains of the group and makes everything work, and you know there’s nothing he can’t work his way out of. I just love how SMART he is! This whole show is so clever, and Micky’s the main reason for that. He comes up with the cleverest cons to take down these horrible snobby nasty rich people, he adapts to problematic situations, and he leads the rest of the team so well, plays his roles to perfection, and can even have fun while doing it. I just… Gaaahh, he’s awesome.

Zorro (Zorro [1975])

I pretty much love almost every version of Zorro I’ve ever seen, but my absolute favorite is the film Zorro from 1975. Mostly because this particular version of Zorro (played by Alain Delon) just defines the character for me. One thing I really love is how well he pulls off the double-identity. His foppish self, the flighty-headed Governor, is so well handled and silly and hilarious. You would never guess that he is also the epic, serious (but with a great grin when he uses it), totally awesome bandit Zorro who is like the best sword-fighter ever. I just LOVE Zorro. He’s the best. (Also this may contain my favorite onscreen sword-fight ever, with the possible exception of the one with Darth Maul in Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace.) He is my favoritest Zorro in the history of ever, which is saying a lot. This Zorro is basically the ultimate masked-man for me.

Mr. Thornton (North and South)

thornton

Okay, I’ll be honest: this is probably just because he’s basically like a Mr. Darcy played by Richard Armitage, which I’ve ALWAYS wanted ever since I knew about the actor… But still. Mr. Thornton is just awesome. And misunderstood. And has some fabulous lines and a great accent. And is actually super caring once you get to know him. He’s really NICE beneath that gruff exterior and deep voice. Plus, y’know. Richard Armitage. ‘Nuff said. (I still wish he’d played Mr. Darcy. Then Mr. Darcy could have made it to this list. XD) And certain moments like the notorious proposal scene and “look back at me” and when he fell asleep on his desk… and just yes.

Dastan (Prince of Persia)

I just love Dastan. He’s entirely relateable and adorable and nice and awesome and funny and epic. He’s basically like a scruffy puppy. I don’t even know why but he’s just one of my favorite screen characters, which is no doubt partially why Prince of Persia is one of my top favorite films… But he’s also kind of humble, and kind, and entirely endearing. You just want to be friends with him, you know? And he just goes through so much! And loves his brothers and family and is hilarious with Princess Tamina. And he does so many cool things, especially the parkour scenes — gaaahh, I wish I could do that. So. Much. Coolness.

I tag these stupendously awesome people:

How about you? Agree? Disagree? Love any of these characters, or even heard of half of them? And who are some of your favorites? 🙂

  1. This is awesome! I did this tag a while ago and had Thranduil too. He’s just mysterious and aloof. You have to love him!

Elliot! “He’s a very distinctive kind of hero.” Yes, so much! I almost had him on my list too, but then I opted to do a whole Leverage post. But Eliot is definetly the best and he does, like, everything. He’s an awesome Jack of all trades. It’s always hilarious when he gets caught in the identity of his alias and looses sight of the con. He wants to finish the ball game or sign autographs for his fans. XD It’s like a part of him wants to be normal, but he knows he could never go back to doing normal stuff on a regular basis. And his cooking fetish is just too perfect. The knives. The skill. The intense focus and talent he puts into it. Eliot never does things halfway. It’s all or nothing.

Some of the latter characters I’ve never even heard of. But I like what you said about Mal. If I find some of his movies I’ll have to watch them. And Hustle sounds cool too! As well as Mr. Thorton (who doesn’t like a Mr. Darcy type character?).

    • ALWAYS YES TO THRANDUIL. 😀

And YAY another Eliot fan!!! *high-fives* I’m just squealing over here and grinning insanely. EVERYTHING you said about him, YES. He’s amazing. ^_^ And yes, it’s hilarious when he gets so into his roles like ball player and so on. XD His cooking is the best. 😀 Ooh, a whole Leverage post?? I MUST READ IT.

Mr. Darcy characters are sooo awesome, Hustle is super fun, and Mal is in the TV show “Firefly” and the follow-up film “Serenity”. 🙂

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! ^_^

Oh my gravy, I’m not sure how I’m going to do this. Do each of the Avenger people’s individual movies count? XD AAAACK THIS IS GOING TO BE SO HARD.
I’d love to put in the LotR characters, except I haven’t watched the movies and I haven’t finished the books. 😛
Also, “Thranduil is, not the moose”… XD Awesomeness.

  3. “Thranduil is, not the moose.” XD Favorite bit!
And I agree — Clint /was/ the heart of the sequel! The man is the best.
YOU INCLUDED MR. THORNTON!!!!!!!!!! Okay, he’s one of my favorite people ever.
    And Dastan. I love Dastan.
GREAT list. And I love all your adjectives! XD

  4. Yay, you did it! 😀 😀 😀 I sheepishly admit that I don’t know a number of these characters…BUT they all look awesome! Thranduil, Aragorn, Hawkeye, and Dastan are the ones I do know. Great choices! (BTW, when I watched Age of Ultron and Hawkeye got so much screen time, I thought of you. ❤ But seriously–he just shot up my favorites list with that movie! ^___^)

    • YES I DID. And pft, that’s okay; I figured most of them were reeeally unknown. 😛 Thranduil, Aragorn, Hawkeye and Dastan are awesome. 😀 (And aww, really?? That makes my day! ^_^ I just love him so much and I’m glad you like him more now! 😀 He’s just AWESOME. ❤ )

      • They are! *frolics in fangirly feels* 😀 (Yes! Really! And when the movie was over, I thought, “Boy, I’ll bet she LOVED all the stuff about Hawkeye.” SPOILER ALERT: aka the family. SPOILERS OVER. I have a soft spot for him now, for sure. <3)
It's kind of funny–I saw your comments appearing as you were writing them. o.o Creepy internet-life convergence… XD

        • (Oh really? That’s hilarious. XD And… er… yes… My mind is still trying to decide about the spoiler thing. o_o Meep. When you ship Hawkeye and Natasha for so long, and then something like THAT happens, it’s a little hard to know what to think!! XD)

Wow, that is funny. 😀 It’s cool when you can tell someone’s online right THEN. ^_^

          Like

          • (Ooh, yes, that would be a problem. XD I don’t think I ever shipped them much, but yeeeah. That upsets one’s plans, doesn’t it? 😛 )

            I know, it’s kind of neat! ^_^

  5. ERMAGERD YOU JUST IGNITED THE FLAME OF MY FANGIRLING HEART WITH ELLIOT. ❤ I love him. I just do. I MEAN. He punches people and then bakes and he's so good with kids and he's so PROTECTIVE and fldkjsadlkjl I basically fjksdla I really love Eliot faljsdkaf Spencer.
    Yes.
HAHAHA SEA PATROL. Zomg. I forgot about that show! XD My dad used to watch it like two million years ago and so I kind of forgot it existed, but I watched a few episodes and always remember being like "Aussies don't sound like that." XD So the accent is a little thick. They’re probably from the South. lol

THANK YOU FOR THE TAG I CAN’T WAIT TO DO IT.

    • AAAAHHH ELIOT YESSSS. Oh my goodness, I should totally have said something about him being good with kids despite his war-machine personality. XD SO TRUE. ELIOT IS THE BESSSST!!! ❤

Oh my goodness, that's HILARIOUS! XD I kind of adore Sea Patrol and that's awesome your dad watched it! I had no idea the accents were too thick though. 😛 But I like 'em! (I like yours too! I think yours is calmer…)

YAY YOU ARE WELCOME AND I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOURS. 😀

  6. And this comment should be titled “In which Lauri fangirls a ton also.”

EEEEEEEEE!!!!!! I LOVED THISSSS. This is seriously like the best tag I’ve ever seen!

I could go on and on and on about your choices but you know how I feel about these charries, so I’ll spare you. BUT ELIOT AND THRANDUIL AND ARAGORN AND HAWKEYE. *huggles them so hard* And Mr. Thornton. DUH. You put it perfectly. (Mainly because he’s Richard Armitage. Of course.) Dastan is totally a precious little scruffy puppy. I loveth him! He’s definitely the type of guy you want to be friends with.

I’ve never actually seen Firefly… I know it’s amazing, but I also know it’s painful and I’m not sure I can handle another scarring TV show so I’ve steered clear of it… :-/
I really need to watch Hustle though! Especially since meh Celti likes it, which obviously means I will as well. *nods*

Sea Patrol is a new one to me. Never heard of that. Huh. But Australian accents you say? *wriggles eyebrows* Although, honestly, I kind of detest anything that has to do with water. I’m weird that way.

I had no idea you were a Zorro fan! :O And I thought I knew everything about you!! Will I get in trouble for admitting I’ve never seen any Zorro stuff? *ducks and hides* Apparently I need to fix this problem!

Gaaah, this post was so much fun! But isn’t it just painful choosing only TEN??? I like the rules you enforced on yourself. Very clever. There are just too many to choooose! *flails*

(Oh, also. Thranduil is Legolas’s dad, not the moose. *DIES*)

    Liked by 1 person

    • Isn’t it so fuuun?? 😀

YES ALL THE CHARRIE LOVE. ^_^

Eh, yeah, Firefly is kind of a mixed bag. 😛 It’s definitely okay that you haven’t seen it, but there IS a lot of awesome in it. 🙂 (And there’s only 11 episodes. XD)
HUSTLE YES. Hustle you would LOVE because it’s kinda like Leverage but BBC!! Heehee. 😀

Sea Patrol I really only like for the accents and a couple of the charries. XD It’s kinda weird/scary. Oh my, did I know you don’t like water?? o.o THE THINGS I LEARN.

Zorro is awesome!! 😀 I don’t know, I just love masked-man, alternate-identity type stories, and Zorro’s one of the best examples. 🙂 There’s sooo many Zorro versions, though! o.o But I kinda enjoy all of them. You should definitely try you some Zorro someday!

YES IT IS SO PAINFUL. TOO MANY TO CHOOSE…

(Heehee. XD I just haaad to. 😛 BUT MOOOOSE AND THRAAANDUIL AND LEGOLAAAS…)

      • Wait, did you NOT know I wasn’t a water person? o.o My, we’re learning all sorts of things about each other today! Yeah, that’s a big thing with me. I really do not like the ocean, it terrifies me. And drowning is probably my biggest fear, at least biggest fear of ways to die. Boats and anything sea related like that…just noooo. Going on a cruise would not be a vacation for me, it’d be scarring. And submarines! Oh my, submarines. O.O I’m claustrophobic and terrified of going under the ocean, so yeah. I can’t handle submarine things, I don’t even like watching people in submarines on TV shows! Basically, if it has to do with water, I’m out. xD

The only exception I’ll make is pirate things. I do like pirates, but still sometimes pirate movies make me uncomfortable.

        Liked by 1 person

        • My goodness, I did not know that, no! o.o I think you being scared of drowning/the ocean mayyy ring a slight bell, but I didn’t realize it extended to films and such! Though submarines… yeah, I wouldn’t want to do that. XD And I’ve never actually BEEN to the ocean. 😛 Ooh, pirates are usually fun, yes. 🙂 Usually. 😉 My, the things we learn!

  7. *flails* I’ve seen Hustle!!! It’s a really cool show!!! My TV station stopped playing it too I think… :/ sadly.
HAWKEYE IS AMAZING. I think he’s like, my second favorite Avenger. He’s so funny in AuO and his family is too cute. I love every scene with him and his wife!!!!

    Liked by 1 person

    • AAAAHHH YOU’VE SEEN HUSTLE!!!!! *flails around happily* I don’t think I’ve run into ANYONE before now who has! THAT IS AWESOME!!! 😀 *high five* …Not so awesome that it stopped playing it for you too, though. D: *cries*

Ooh, then who’s your favorite Avenger if Hawkeye’s second?? 😉 YES HE’S SO FUNNY AND I ADORED IT ONCE I RECOVERED. XD Hawkeyyyye!! ^_^ *fangirls*

      • Hey, have you ever seen this old British mystery series called Midsummer Murders? It’s not the best show, but it’s stupidly addictive and it’s on allll the time on my local public station.
My favorite Avenger is Vision; HE’S JUST SO AWESOME AND EPIC AND AAAAAAH. And he has Jarvis’ voice!!!! I’m soooo excited he’s gonna be in Captain America 3. Even if it’a just a brief cameo, I shall be squeeing and flailing.

        Liked by 1 person

  8. I love this list! My dad first read us “The Hobbit” when I was seven, and for some reason, I LOVED Thranduil. He and Bilbo were my favorite. It was rather random, but they have remained my favorites (and they survived the movies as my favorites too!)
[And Faramir (my LOTR fav)-the movies did not do his awesomeness justice.]
Also agree about Hawkeye and Dastan and MAL and 1975 Zorro!-and these are all great picks. I’ll have to watch Hustle, sounds right up my alley.

    Liked by 1 person

    • That’s awesome! 😀 (Also, yes FARAMIR. He is positively the best, but the movies just gaah. I love him in the movies too, but they kinda stripped some of his nobleness by making him tempted by the ring. *sigh*)
Yayyy! Yes, they are all fabulous, and oh my GOODNESS I don’t think I’ve met anyone who knows about that Zorro!! My day is MADE! 😀 Hustle is sooo much fun. 🙂 You seem totally awesome, by the way — thanks for stopping by! ^_^

  9. Mr. Thornton is one of my favorites as well….although “favorite” just doesn’t seem to quite cut it for how I feel about him. He’s just….yeah. Yep.

Zorro is my dad’s favorite! He basically wanted to BE Zorro when he was a kid. Sometimes I think he still does. It’s kinda cute….until he starts trying to speak in his own version of Spanish (a language of which he knows nothing) – then everybody just has to roll their eyes 😉

    Liked by 1 person

    • I know right?? THERE ARE NO WORDS. Mr. Thornton is just alskdjlkfjd.

Really? EEP, that is so cool! 😀 I think I’ve only seen so much Zorro because it’s my little brother’s obsession… but it’s so much fun and Zorro is so awesome. ^_^
