February Ishness

My doings of February…

Was sick almost all month. A flu and then a cold a week later. Which as you might imagine did not do much for my wanting to be productive…

Went to a library sale…

Read (mostly contemporary books). Which is weird for me…

Wrote nearly 6,500 words. Which may not sound like much but it’s more than I usually do in a month. I worked on a few different things, but mostly Tare (who is now vaguely mad at me because he hates nightmares).

  • A bit of progress on Heartseeker.
  • A (very long) chapter of The Secret of Kedran’s Wood, which hit 40k words.
  • Hawkeye fanfiction.
  • Some random snippets, including some for my new idea I mentioned in my last summarizing post.

Made progress on editing my friend’s lovely book. But am not finished yet. (Finished the first round, though.)

EDIT: Oh! And I discovered “Leverage”. Thanks to Christine and Cait for getting me into it. I have seen two seasons and it is awesome (Robin-Hood-like con artists hurray!). Eliot is the best ever. Just sayin’.

So there’s another round of monthly Ishness.

Spring 2015 Books I’m Excited About!

I don’t know about you, but I feel like there are a lot of really exciting book releases coming up soon!

So, today, I’m going to share them with you!

Here are half a dozen books I’m super excited about, coming out in March, April, and May of 2015…

Out of Darkness RisingGillian Bronte Adams

March 15

I did a post about this one… Needless to say, the idea of another book by Gillian Bronte Adams after Orphan’s Song nearly topped my favorites list of last year’s reading… gets me pretty ecstatic.

Out of Darkness Rising is a Christian Fantasy Novella and I simply can’t wait to read it!

HeidelAnita Valle

also March 15

I’ve read the first two books (Maelyn, which is free on Kindle and very enjoyable; and Coralina) and am fairly hooked on this series of delightful fantasy novellas about nine princesses and their adventures.

The Penderwicks in Spring – Jeanne Birdsall

March 24

I discovered The Penderwicks in May of 2013 and fell instantly in love. The next month I devoured both sequels (The Penderwicks on Gardam Street, and The Penderwicks at Point Mouette) and aaaaaaaaahhhh so much love!!! I can hardly believe they are modern books because they feel so CLASSIC, like… I don’t know, Nesbit stories or something. EEEP. Some of my very very favorite books ever, which is saying a lot. The Penderwicks, they just… I LOVE THAT FAMILY. Plus it’s laugh-out-loud hilarious…

Let’s just say I’m extremely excited that there’s going to be a fourth book. 😀 This one’s set some years later, so I’m a little nervous about Batty and Ben being older, but… mostly I’m just excited!

Stolen MagicGail Carson Levine

April 21

This is a sequel to A Tale of Two Castles, which I enjoyed immensely, so I’m very excited to see what happens next with the further adventures of Elodie and the dragon Meenore! Another mystery… and one I can’t wait to read!

The Huntress of Thornbeck ForestMelanie Dickerson

May 5

Everyone knows I love fairytale retellings, and I’ve loved all of Melanie Dickerson’s books I’ve read thus far, so I’m very excited for this new book which I hear is to start a new series… It’s supposed to be a Swan Lake/Robin Hood type story, and I’m very much looking forward to it!

Illusionarium – Heather Dixon

May 19

I have no idea. But. THAT COVER. And she wrote ENTWINED of all things, which is one of my favoritest books. So why NOT read a random steampunk thingy by her even if I don’t know anything about it?? I’m totally totally excited about this, irrationally, and I don’t even care. I just wanna read it. 😀

So there you have my upcoming excitements! I don’t know HOW, but SOMEHOW I’ve simply got to get hold of them all once they come out! EEEP. 😀

What do you think? Gorgeous covers, no? ❤

Are you excited about any of these?

What books are coming out soon that you just can’t wait to get your adoring little bookworm fingers on? Tell me in the comments! 🙂

The Wildcat of Braeton

by Claire M. Banschbach

About the book:

“If you’re fighting our battle, we’d best make you look like a champion,” Tam said to Aiden. Tam and Blair began to apply the war paint the Clans had worn into battle since before they arrived in Braeton.

“You ready?” Tam asked when they finished.

“As I’ll ever be,” Aiden replied. “Tam, if everything goes wrong, you take charge after me.”

“I’m praying nothing goes wrong,” Tam said. “Just remember what Diarmad said when he built this place: ‘In times of trouble, a Champion shall rise up and Scodra shall not fall.’”

His term of service to Lord Rishdah now complete, Aiden returns to his home in Braeton. As he travels he hears rumors that trouble plagues Braeton. Clan Canich is being attacked from within. He arrives, determined to save his father, his brothers, and his Clan from the treachery of one man.

A year has passed since the Calorins were driven from Aredor and Corin is struggling to rebuild his country. Despite the peace, a fear haunts him that the Calorins aren’t far away. The Hawk Flight takes to the forest again to defend the borders against a possible attack from the neighboring country of Durna and its Calorin ally.

As Aiden and Corin struggle to adapt to their new lives they know one thing for certain – war is coming to the North!

Movies of 2015 I’m Excited About

There are a few movies coming out this year that I’m SUPER excited about, so I thought today I’d share them with you!

Mar 13, 2015

I love fairytales, so it comes as no surprise that I’m really looking forward to this live-action version of Cinderella!

Plus, from what I can tell, it’s going to be absolutely BEAUTIFUL with the costumes and such… And there are several actors in it that I’ve seen before; it’s always fascinating to see people in different roles.

It seems that lately, people keep making fairytale movies, which is a trend I particularly like, and hope it will continue. Yay fairytale movies! 🙂

Beyond the Mask

Apr 6, 2014

I cannot even begin to describe how excited I am about this thing!!

The American Revolutionary War and masked men are two of my favorite things — so mix them together in an indie film by the Burns family (who did Pendragon: Sword of His Father) with thrilling action and awesome costumes, and John Rhys-Davies thrown in for good measure? YES PLEASE.

I’m dying to see Beyond the Mask, and if you aren’t yet, once you see the awesome trailer you probably will be too! 😉

Avengers: Age of Ultron

May 1, 2015

As you may have gathered from my last post, I kind of love the Avengers (especially Hawkeye), and let’s just say I’ve been looking forward to Avengers 2 ever since I saw the first one.

I’m also kinda terrified that it will be awful and/or that I’ll get mad or heartbroken about things, since I loved the first one so much, and since I love ALL the characters a ton…

But we shall see! I’m still extremely excited!! 😀

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens

Dec 18, 2015

I wish there was a better poster for this one (and Avengers 2…) but things seem to still be under wraps except for the teaser trailer.

I’m one of those weird people who doesn’t feel extremely about Star Wars either way: I’m not a super-fan, nor am I one of the nay-sayers who doesn’t like Star Wars. I’ve always enjoyed them, in their way, but I’m not specifically passionate about which movies are the best (or worst) and whether the original trilogy or the prequels are better, etc.

I just… enjoy them as movies, and I’m looking forward to another Star Wars movie… especially with that cool new lightsaber. 😉

How about you?

Are you excited/nervous about any of these movies?

What films are you looking forward to? 🙂

Meeting Hawkeye: Fanfiction Dream

Here’s something about me: I never write fanfiction.

…Except when I have such awesome and vivid dreams about some fandom that I just have to write it down. (Like a Thor and Loki short story I wrote once and might post sometime…)

Last night, I had an awesome Avengers dream.

There was lots of stuff with Captain America doing things first, but that’s not important and I don’t remember it very well. But he and Black Widow were on their way somewhere to do some rescuing things, and there was this big scary creature person fighting them on the way. There was something about the creature looking sort of like a crocodile and Captain America knocked it out by punching it in the face, which is where we come in.

The characters belong to Marvel, etc. etc., and this is just for fun and random. Pictures are from Pinterest.

Meeting Hawkeye – Deborah O’Carroll

a28d41b45531eac158f8e9fbbc388778“Croc eye,” Captain America muttered as he finished knocking it out; it stilled on the concrete, eyes closing. “Ooh, that’s funny,” he added as he walked on.

Black Widow continued striding after him. “Why?” she asked as we went through a shadowy building.

“Croc eye, Hawkeye,” Captain America explained, rhyming and smirking at it.

“Yeah, really funny,” said a shadow from high up.

I looked, and felt a little leap of exhilaration. It was him!

Hawkeye jumped down from where he had been perched with his bow, and joined us in striding quickly onward through the darkness of the busy concrete building.

Ooh! He’s in this one! I thought with a thrill of ecstatic excitement. As if it was an Avengers movie.

There was a sort of high-pitched keening scream/squeal coming from somewhere, and it took me a moment to realize that “somewhere” was from me. I flailed my arms. “Fangirling!” I said, apparently to explain to any bystanders what was going on as I happily traveled along after the three.

H7Hawkeye gave me a look, no doubt due to my squealing.

I suddenly realized, walking along right next to him as he looked at me: Wait; I’m in it too.

My next thought was: I’m never going to get another chance like this.

So I seized the moment—and Hawkeye’s head—and kissed the side of his forehead.

He paused to disentangle himself. “Augh! Really?” he asked.

“Sorry,” I said; not sorry at all, with a Rapunzel-from-Tangled-ish feeling as I smiled and felt extremely happy. “You’re just really awesome and I really like you.”

“Can I take off now?” Hawkeye called ahead to Captain America and Black Widow, implying that he didn’t want to work today.

“Nope,” and “There’s people to rescue,” they answered, not looking back.

“Figures,” Hawkeye muttered, glancing at me.

At which point I woke up from the sheer awesomeness. (Or possibly from my cat yowling.)

But it. was. fabulous.
